Read this whole tutorial once through before actually starting on anything. Alot of the info is out of order (but in order, so it's an oxymoron)..

First off, unzip everything into a directory somewhere. Somewhere good, like under your HL directory...

Ok, now to begin, you first need a pic. Drawn yourself, off the internet, a porno pic, etc.
Open up your picture in Photoshop.

Now because some games suck, you have to make it the right size. Each dimension has to be a multiple of 16.

Here is a list of dimensions (I did it in my head):

 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, 96, 112,
 128, 144, 160, 176, 192, 208,
 224, 240, 256, 272, 288, 304,
 320.

Now the two dimensions you choose, when multiplied MUST be less than 12,288 otherwise HL won't accept it. Once you got your pic all sized and ready to go, you must convert to 256 colors.

 Go image->mode->indexed color.

A dialog box will popup, make sure it's set to this:

 Palette: Adaptive
 Color Depth: 8 bits/pixel
 Colors: 256
 Dither: None

Then press OK. If done right, it shouldn't look that much different than before. If it gets all blotchy and stuff then you probably are using too many colors in your pic. I use about 3 colors when making my pics. If you put red, blue, green, orange, etc in there, it will look like crap when converted to 256 colors.

After that, you need to define the clear color. What's a clear color? The color halflife doesn't draw. To do that you gotta change the last color in your 256 color palette to solid blue. To do this in Photoshop, go image->mode->color table..
This window has all the colors your picture has in it. The last color is the color in the lower right hand corner. Click on it. In the color creation window, in the lower right hand corner, there are 3 numbers, RGB. Change R and G to 0 and B to 255.. This is solid blue, now click OK. Then click OK again.

If your pictue all of the sudden has blue spots all over it, don't panic otherwise skip this paragraph. Go selection->color range. Click on the blue stuff in your pic. Now press Ok. The blue is selected, now just pic a color close to what it was before and select the paintbucket tool, set tolerance to 255. Flood fill the blue stuff. There, all better.

Now, if you want transparent parts in your pic, then draw blue there. Make sure you draw 0 0 255.. If you want blue in your picture, then use 0 0 254, just a hair darker than solid blue (but unnoticeably darker). When you are ready to go, save the bmp into the directory you placed the compiling tools in as 'pldecal.bmp'..

Run makesprite.bat.. It will create two files. One of which you can ignore. You want the pldecal.wad. Copy pldecal.wad into your cstrike directory. Run CS, don't go into the multiplayer setup to see if it worked otherwise it will compile over it with something lame and you will have to recopy it. To see if it worked, join a game. Spray to your hearts content!
